New from Northbar Tackle, an anticipated smaller version of the Bottle Darter. Most lures are flashes in the pan - popular for one year and then they fade - the NorthBar Tackle Bottledarter has become a fixture in surf bags all along the striper coast and beyond. Great in almost any conditions from calm to rough, this lure slowly wobbles and returns to the surface if you stop retrieving it. Otherwise, it digs nicely into the surf. Some have even experimented with weighting it for even more casting distance, something the lure wasn't lacking in the first place.
This all new size weighs in at 1-5/8oz and is 6" long.

I purchased the smaller model and use it in an inlet that evening. Really liked it as it casts well for a small plug and it worked well in a strong rip. It runs a bit deeper than SS darter so that is good in deeper areas. More importantly, the fish liked it too that evening.
I hate to be the first to give this lure a bad review but I feel it is necessary given my experience. Bought in May 2023. After one use on a sandy beach the red paint on the lip was gone. Disappointing but not a big deal. After a couple more times using it I started to notice the lure is not digging in even with strong current. Now that is disappointing because this is what this lure is made to do. After 4-5 total times using it, I just noticed my lure is full of water at the tail end. So it still floats, but the tail sinks and that is why the nose isn’t digging in at the surface. At $23, this should not happen. It’s possible I got a bad one out of the box but personally I will not buy another.
Cool lure that's comparably priced to other high quality plastic surf fishing lures. Happy they made the Jr size!
Both the bottle darter and the montauk are some of the hardest digging plugs on the market. Fishing the surf or a rip with these will sure keep you busy!
